Why PDF Works for the Finished Estimate
A PDF keeps the page layout together when the estimate moves between phones, computers, email and print. The customer sees the same scope, line items and likely total you reviewed before sending.
Treat the PDF as the finished customer copy. Keep the original estimate editable so you can revise the work or likely price and create a fresh PDF instead of editing the final file by hand.
How to Create a PDF Estimate
Start with the editable estimate in Docelf. The numbered guide shows the details to complete before you preview and download the customer copy.
- Your Business: Add your business name and the contact details the customer should use.
- Your Logo: Add your logo if you want it on the finished PDF.
- The Customer: Enter the customer and identify the job or service address.
- Number and Dates: Check the estimate number and issue date. Add a valid-until date when useful.

Remove Sample Details
Replace placeholder names, prices and terms before downloading. Keep only the details and policies that apply to this job.

Keep the PDF and Customer Response Together
Save the exact PDF you sent with the job records. If the scope or expected price changes, update the original estimate and send a replacement. Explain the change and identify which version it replaces.
For delivery, opening and online response history, email the estimate directly from Docelf. An attached PDF sent through your own email does not provide that Docelf history. When it is time to bill, create the invoice from the estimate in Docelf and check the final work and price.
