Roofing Receipt Previews for Repairs and Replacements
A roof repair and a replacement need different descriptions, but both need a clear payment record. Review the roofing receipt previews below. Each opens the same Docelf editor for your property, work, and payment details.

How to Create a Roofing Receipt
Use a roofing receipt to confirm a deposit, stage payment, or final payment after you receive it. When the roofing invoice is already in Docelf, record the payment and create its receipt. Docelf brings over the customer and item details and keeps the receipt connected to that invoice.
For a standalone receipt, have the roofing bill and payment record beside you. Choose a starting number for your first receipt; Docelf numbers new receipts in sequence. Then follow the fields below.
- Your Business: Add your roofing business and contact details.
- Your Logo: Use the logo from your other roofing documents.
- The Customer: Name the homeowner, business, or contractor who paid.
- Number and Date: Check the number. Use the date you received payment.
- The Roof Work: List the repair or replacement and agreed charges.
- The Payment: Check tax, discounts, and total. Record the amount and method.
- Roofing Notes: Add the property and invoice reference in Notes. Review and send.
How to Fill In Roofing Receipt Line Items
The invoice being paid gives you the quantities and agreed charges. Describe the roof area, with separate rows for materials, labor, and cleanup when each has its own price.
Docelf calculates the line amounts, tax, and total. Check the payment against the named roofing invoice.
This fictional USD example is for a detached-garage roof replacement, paid in full by check. An illustrative 8% tax applies only to the $1,068.00 of shingles and underlayment; labor and disposal are untaxed here.
| QTY | Description | Unit Price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 | Architectural shingles — bundles | $38.50 | $924.00 |
| 2 | Roof underlayment — rolls | $72.00 | $144.00 |
| 16 | Remove old covering and install garage roof — labor hours | $95.00 | $1,520.00 |
| 1 | Roof debris haul-away and disposal | $180.00 | $180.00 |
| Subtotal | $2,768.00 | |
| Sales Tax (8% on materials — illustrative) | $85.44 | |
| Total Paid | $2,853.44 |
The $2,853.44 check payment settles the roofing invoice in full. Your own roofing job may use a different price breakdown and tax treatment.
What to Include in Roofing Receipt Notes
Use Notes to name the property and roof area, especially when the work covers a garage, an extension, or one part of a larger site. Add the roofing invoice reference and say what the payment settles.
Keep the completion date clearly labeled. The receipt date is the payment date, even when the roof was finished earlier or the receipt is sent later. In this example, payment arrived two days after the work was completed.
Example: Notes
- Check payment of $2,853.44 received September 22, 2026. Check reference: [Reference].
- Detached-garage roof replacement at [Property Address], completed September 20, 2026.
- Invoice RF-412 is paid in full.
Create a Receipt for the Roofing Payment
Add the roof work and payment details. Docelf calculates the total so you can check the receipt and send the customer a copy.
Describe the Roof Area the Payment Covers
For a Repair
Name the repair and its location, such as flashing at the rear chimney or damaged shingles on the garage. A description tied to the actual area is easier to recognize than “Roofing services.”
For a Replacement or Project Stage
Use the work description from the roofing agreement or invoice. A deposit receipt names the planned work. A payment for one roof area should identify that area, even when the property has several buildings.
For Added Work
Use a separate line and approval reference for extra work priced separately on the invoice. When the job price includes removal and cleanup, describe them as included.
Keep Warranty and Completion Records With the Receipt
Your customer may keep the roofing receipt for years. A short reference to the actual workmanship agreement or material warranty can help them find the right document later. Keep the two types of warranty clear, and check local requirements before adding conditions or limits.
You can attach completion photos or a warranty document as a PDF or supported image. Each attachment can be up to 5 MB. The receipt itself records payment; the attached job records carry the longer work and warranty details.
Make the Receipt Match Your Roofing Documents
Use the same logo, colors, and fonts as the earlier job documents. An optional “Roofing” label can appear before “Receipt,” while your phone, email, and website can go in the footer. Choose the invoice's currency from USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, or AUD.
Saved customer details and regular roofing items can help with another job. If you duplicate a receipt, Docelf creates a new draft with a new number. Replace the property, roof area, dates, and payment details so the copy records the new job rather than repeating an old payment.
Keep the Final Receipt With the Roofing Invoice
Once you send the receipt, keep its payment reference with the roofing job. An emailed receipt's history shows delivery and opening; it does not mean the customer has accepted the work or a warranty.
- If the customer paid a deposit, keep that receipt with the final-payment receipt.
- Use “Paid in full” for the named invoice only when its balance is zero.
- Supply another copy with the same receipt number when the customer needs it.

Roofing Receipt FAQs
Practical answers for final payments, roof descriptions, and records the customer keeps.
-
What amount belongs on the final roofing receipt?
Record the amount received now. If the customer previously paid a deposit, show it separately from the final payment. Use “Paid in full” once the payments settle the named roofing invoice.
-
Should I date the receipt when the roof was finished?
Use the date you received payment, even when you create or send the receipt later. Label the roof-completion date separately in the description or Notes.
-
How much detail should I give about the roof?
Name the property, the roof area, and whether the work was a repair, replacement, or project stage. Include the matching invoice or job reference. This is especially useful when the property has a main house, garage, and other buildings.
-
Should cleanup appear as a separate roofing charge?
Only when it was priced separately on the invoice being paid. If removal and cleanup were included in the roofing price, mention that inclusion rather than adding another charge. The receipt should match the agreed bill.
-
Can I include warranty paperwork with the receipt?
Yes. You can attach a warranty document as a PDF or supported image and refer to it in Notes. Keep the receipt focused on payment; the attachment provides the full details of the agreed coverage.
-
What should I send before the roofing customer pays?
Use a roofing invoice to request payment for the work. Send a receipt after money is received. If the customer pays only part of the bill, record that payment and the balance still remaining on that invoice.
Give the Customer a Clear Roofing Payment Record
Finish the payment paperwork with a receipt the customer can keep alongside the roofing job records.
- Identify the property and roof work
- Show the amount received and payment method
- Send the receipt with the right invoice reference
