Build the estimate from the vehicle and current findings. Separate known repairs from diagnostic work, optional repairs or hidden damage so the customer can see what the likely price covers.

- The Customer: Enter the customer’s name and contact details.
- Number and Dates: Check the estimate number and issue date. Set a response deadline if needed.
- Repairs and Prices: List the expected repairs, parts and supplies. Enter quantities and unit prices, including labor hours and rates.
- The Estimated Total: Check the line amounts, tax and any discount. Docelf calculates the totals.

How to Fill In Automotive Estimate Line Items
Separate parts and labor when you price them separately. Put the labor unit in the description so the customer can see that 2.5 means hours. If you offer a fixed-price service, describe what the package includes without charging for those items again.
This fictional front-brake job uses US dollars. The four charges total $625.00 before an illustrative 8% tax on all items. Use the tax rate and taxable items that apply to your own work.

Explain the inspection findings
Connect the recommended work to the customer’s complaint or what you found during inspection. Identify any separately charged diagnostic work so its purpose and price are clear.
Label what is not known yet
Explain which costs depend on more diagnosis or teardown. If an optional repair is outside this total, say so and give its expected price separately.
After You Send the Estimate
Your customer can accept or decline the estimate online. Check the document history for delivery and opening information; Docelf emails you when they respond.
If further diagnosis changes the repair plan, explain the new findings and send an updated estimate. Agree on the added work before starting it.
