Turn Your Walk Record Into a Clear Bill
A dog walking invoice shows which walks you are charging for and how much the client owes. Include the dog’s name when a household has more than one pet or uses several services.
A 30-minute walk and an hour-long walk may have different prices. Keep them on separate lines. Feeding or other agreed care can have its own line when it is not included in the walk price.
How to Create a Dog Walking Invoice
Use your completed walk record to prepare the bill. The numbered fields show where to add the client, charges, and payment details.
- Identify Your Walking Business: Enter the name and contact details your clients know.
- Add Your Business Logo: Use the same logo you use on your other business documents.
- Choose the Client: Add the pet owner’s billing details or choose a saved customer.
- Set the Billing Dates: Check the invoice number, issue date, and payment due date.
- List the Walks: Enter dates, walk lengths, and prices. Identify any separately charged second dog.
- Check the Total: Apply any agreed discount and relevant tax. Review the calculated amount.
- Explain Payment: Add your payment method and a contact for questions about the walk record.
How to Fill In Dog Walking Invoice Line Items
Use the number of walks as the quantity when you charge per walk. Put the duration and dates in the description. A second-dog charge should apply only to the walks that included that dog.
In this fictional USD example, one dog had five weekday walks and two longer weekend walks during August 3–9, 2026. A second dog joined the two weekend walks. The example uses 8% tax on all three charges. Check which tax applies to your walking services.
| QTY | Description | Unit Price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 30-minute walks, August 3–7 — walks | $22.00 | $110.00 |
| 2 | 60-minute walks, August 8–9 — walks | $35.00 | $70.00 |
| 2 | Second dog on August 8–9 — walks | $8.00 | $16.00 |
| Subtotal | $196.00 | |
| Sales Tax (8% example) | $15.68 | |
| Total | $211.68 |
What to Include in Dog Walking Invoice Terms
Tell the client which walks the invoice covers and when payment is due. Explain separately billed care or extra-dog charges without repeating the whole service agreement.
Use only charges and policies you agreed with the client. Check local requirements before adding late or cancellation fees. Adapt these terms to the walks you completed and your agreement with the owner.
Example: Terms and Conditions
- This invoice covers the walks listed for [Dog’s Name] during [Billing Period].
- Walk prices are based on the durations shown. Extra-dog charges apply only to the listed shared walks.
- Payment is due by [Due Date] via [Accepted Payment Method].
- Please include [Invoice Number] with payment. Contact [Billing Contact] with questions about the walks listed.
Your Walks Are Done. Finish the Invoice.
You can bill from your phone between walks. Docelf adds up the charges so you can check the invoice before emailing it.
Keep Walk Lengths and Extra Care Separate
For a fixed-price walk, enter the number of walks, not the number of minutes. Five 30-minute walks use a quantity of five at your 30-minute walk rate.
For a household with two dogs, say whether the price covers both dogs or includes an extra-dog charge. Give feeding, special care, or an added visit its own charge only when it has a separate agreed price.
For a per-walk bill, check the completed dates before sending it. A canceled visit is not a completed walk. Handle any cancellation charge under the existing agreement and label it clearly.
Reuse the Client Details, Not Last Week’s Walk Count
Save the client and your usual walking services in Docelf. For the next bill, duplicate the earlier invoice and replace its dates and quantities. Docelf creates a new draft with a new number. Check it before you send it.
Use your usual logo, colors, and font so clients recognize the bill. Put your billing contact in the footer. You can add an industry name before “Invoice.”
Choose the agreed currency: Docelf supports USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, and AUD. Attach a PDF or image of the walks covered by the bill when the client needs more detail. See how to attach a file.
Follow Up With the Walk Dates at Hand
You can see when the client opens an invoice sent through Docelf. If the due date passes, refer to the invoice number and the walks covered when you follow up.
Record each payment with its date and amount. Check the remaining balance before requesting another payment. After recording the payment, create a receipt from the invoice to confirm the amount paid.
Invoice File Formats for Your Walk Records
Choose a general Word or Google Docs invoice for an editable written bill. Excel or Google Sheets may suit a list of walk counts and rates. Add your own dog walking details to the chosen file.
Dog Walking Invoice FAQs
-
What quantity should I enter for a 30-minute dog walk?
Enter one when your unit price covers a 30-minute walk. For several walks at that rate, enter the number of walks and list their dates. Do not enter 30 as the quantity unless your price is actually per minute.
-
Can I put a week of dog walks on one invoice?
Yes. Group walks with the same duration and rate, and identify the dates covered. Use separate lines for longer walks or other services so the client can check the count.
-
How do I charge for a second dog from the same household?
Follow the price you agreed with the owner. Show a combined price or a separate extra-dog charge. If you use a separate charge, count only the walks when the second dog joined.
-
Where should feeding or special care appear?
List feeding or special care on its own line when the owner agreed to pay for it separately. When the walk price includes that care, describe it on the walk line without adding another charge.
-
Does duplicating an invoice send next week’s bill automatically?
No. Duplication creates a new draft with a new invoice number. Check the walk dates and quantities. Review the rates before you send the new invoice.
-
Can I send the invoice from my phone?
Yes. Docelf works on phones, tablets, and computers. Check the walk record and total, then email the invoice or download a PDF.
