Price the Artwork and the Wall Conditions Together

A mural quote needs more than an art fee. The wall and the site can change how much work the project takes, so price those conditions along with the artwork.

For broader creative work, browse the creative service quote templates. For interior project work that includes more than the mural, see the interior design quote template.

What Is a Mural Quote?

A mural quote shows the artwork and project price. It also explains any wall or site work included in the job.

Use a quote when the wall and design are clear enough to set a price. If the site or final design is still uncertain, start with an estimate or revise the quote after a site visit.

The quote should cover the creative work and any prep needed for painting. Show access equipment or protective finishing separately when they change the price.

Mural Quote, Estimate, or Invoice?

Use a quote or estimate before the work starts. Send an invoice when payment is due.

Mural Quote

Use a quote when the mural work and price are set.

Mural Estimate

Use an estimate while the wall conditions or final design may still change.

Mural Invoice

Send an invoice when a deposit or mural payment is due.

How to Create a Mural Quote

A good mural quote connects the artwork to the wall and the work needed on site. Follow these seven steps.

How to create a mural quote with Docelf
  1. Add Your Business Details: Add your business details and logo. Save them in Docelf for the next mural quote.
  2. Add the Client and Site: Choose a saved client or add a new one. Add the mural location or site address when it matters for the job.
  3. Add the Quote Number and Dates: Add a unique quote number and issue date. Include a valid-until date when you need one.
  4. Describe the Wall and Artwork: Record the wall size and surface. Describe the artwork coverage. Note whether it is indoors or outdoors only when that changes the work.
  5. Price the Project: Enter the art and painting fee. Show prep or access costs separately when they apply. Add travel or protective finishing only when they change the job.
  6. Set the Project Terms: Add the review process and site schedule. State payment and access responsibilities. Explain how added work will be approved.
  7. Review and Send: Make sure the quote matches the mural project. Check the total. Then email it or download a PDF.

Before you send: Read the quote as if you were arriving at the site for the first time. Make sure the artwork and site conditions are clear. Check any access costs before you send.

After You Send the Mural Quote

Price the Wall, Not Just the Artwork

Two murals with similar designs can require very different work. The quote should reflect the surface and access conditions as well as the creative scope.

Measure the Paintable Area

Record the wall dimensions and artwork coverage. Large or unusually shaped surfaces can change both time and material use.

Check the Surface

Include the prep the wall actually needs before painting. Show it separately when it changes the price.

Plan the Access

Show any access equipment or site restrictions that change how the mural can be painted.

Include Travel or Protection When Needed

Outdoor exposure or travel can add real project costs. Include protective finishing or weather-related limits when they apply.

What to Include in a Mural Quote

Give the client enough detail to understand the mural price and any site costs.

Mural Quote Accepted? Create the Deposit or Project Invoice

Create the invoice from the accepted quote in Docelf. Docelf reuses the client and mural work, so you can bill without entering the project again.

If the mural is billed in stages, adjust the first invoice to the payment due now. Duplicate it later for the next payment.
